Faculty of Veterinary Medicine – Your Path to a Global Career
Veterinary medicine (from Lat. veterinarus — tending to animals) is the science and practice of preventing and treating animal diseases, protecting humans from zoonotic infections, ensuring the safety of animal-derived products, and safeguarding the environment through veterinary sanitary measures.
The Faculty of Veterinary Medicine was established on November 8, 1924, and ever since, it has been at the forefront of veterinary education in the region. Today, it is a key part of the Vitebsk State Academy of Veterinary Medicine – one of Belarus’s leading veterinary institutions.
The Faculty brings together 15 academic departments, 7 of which run their own veterinary clinics. These clinics are not just for treating animals – they are live training grounds where students gain real clinical experience under the supervision of experienced professionals. Every year, the clinics provide inpatient and outpatient care to over 3,000 animals.
Beyond the Academy’s facilities, students also train at partner farms, a meat processing plant, the regional veterinary laboratory, and even the Vitebsk Zoo – giving you a diverse and hands-on learning experience that covers all aspects of veterinary practice.
As a student, you can specialise in areas that match your interests, including:

Graduates work as veterinary surgeons at livestock complexes, disease control stations, diagnostic laboratories, meat and dairy plants, and other food industry enterprises. Many become university lecturers, researchers, or senior managers in agriculture and public health.
